Parathyroid Scan

This scan will help to localize any abnor­mal parathyroid tissue (adenomas).

Preparation

•       Doesn't requiere preparation

• The study consists of two parts:

  First, a radiopharmaceutical will be injected, after 20 minutes of waiting the first set of images will be acquire.Then, you have to wait about 2 hours for the second sets of images. This delay allows more time for the radiopharmaceutical to collect in the parathyroid gland. You will need to lay very still while the scan is being performed so that the best images can be taken. This part takes approximately 30 minutes.
